Apparently his mother was Leann or Leannah c1780 NC.
Family stories among his descendants hint that his mother may not have been married.
DNA tests show that John E doesn't match any Rigsby family, so the family stories are true.
Interestingly, his DNA is fairly close to R84 Henry.

His mother might be a sister of R25 Russell.
My best guess is that she was a daughter of R06 Luke, or possibly a sister.
