Notes:

This RootsWeb entry says he was born 1715-04-18 in Northern Ireland.

--
A message on the Ancestry.com Houston board says his parents were John Houston 1689 Northern Ireland d 1754 + Margaret Cunningham.

However, other messages say that James s/o John + Margaret died in Ireland unmarried.
He may instead be a son of John's brother William.

--
married in Augusta Co VA

other children:
William 1762 + Susan Long
Hannah c1760 + Isaac Baker
Absalom 1766
Agnes Grace 1768 [may have married George Jones]
Mary + c1770 (unknown) Russell
Johnson

--
He is supposed to be the father of Sam Houston of TX fame, but this is incorrect. Sam's parents were Samuel Houston + Elizabeth Paxton. Sam may be more distantly related to my Houston family.

--
He owned land in Augusta Co, then moved to Greene Co NC (now TN) about 1778. There is a Houston
Valley there named after him.

from this RootsWeb entry:
