He also was a fifer in the Civil War (Confederate), Co F 5th regiment GA Volunteer Army.

From the Margie Boyd book:
second marriage in Calhoun Co GA 1869-05-02 Nancy Ann Garrett 1833-02-19.
He appears on tax lists in Walton Co GA in 1826 and 1834.
On 1873-12-13 he applied for a pension based on his service in the War of 1812.

His brother Thomas also bought 40 acres there, and there doesn't seem to be another Samuel.
However, this Samuel seems to have always been in GA.
