The following is from "Goodspeeds, "Biography and Historical Memoirs of Mississippi", 1891, publ. in the Botetourt Co., Va. records.
Nancy Ross married 2nd, on 1 Dec 1812, Greene Co., Tenn., Benjamin Duncan. They moved to Limestone,
Alabama, in 1822, then moved to Shelby Co., Tenn. in 1834. Nancy died in 1836 in Shelby County, leaving 3 sons
and 3 daus. Their son, James M. Duncan, was born in Greene Co., Tenn. on 28 Oct 1813, and died on 1 June 1860
in Shelby Co., Tenn.
Benjamin was a son of Jeremiah Duncan and wife, Rebekah, who moved from Botetourt Co., Va. to Greene Co.,
Tenn. before 19 Dec 1797. Jeremiah was one of 15 children of Robert Duncan, born in Scotland, and wrote his Will
on March 29, 1787, proved in June Court 1787, Inventory filed Oct 9, 1787. Robert lived on Backe Creek adj.
William McClelan and Nickels Carper. He also owned land in Harrison Co., West Virginia when he died. The
witnesses of his Will were, William McClelan, Andrew Clark, Christian Hershburger. Robert Duncan names his six
sons and nine daughters and his wife:
Wife, Cettron.
5 older sons: George, Jeremiah, Amos, Benjamin, David.
5 older daughters: "Each to get 5 shillings: Margaret, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Isabel, Janet.
5 minor aged children: Mary, Eastair, Rachel, Robert, Nancy. "Robert to be apprenticed as a blacksmith". Robert
married in 1809 Elizabeth Lyons, widow of William Lyons, a blacksmith in Montgomery Co.,Va., and they moved to
Knox Co., Tenn. On April 23, 1802, these five minor aged children sold 7 acres of a 340 ac tract in Montgomery
Co., Va., to Jacob Honce.
